Let’s get honest—running a photography business during the holidays is both amazing and a little bit wild. Between editing marathons, family events, and the everyday hustle, December can feel like a juggling act with way too many balls in the air. Now that Christmas Day is here, I wanted to share what really goes on behind the scenes (and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything).

The Holiday Rush Is Real
The inbox filled up fast this month with last-minute session requests, print orders, and questions about gift deadlines. There were nights when I was still editing at midnight, fueled by cocoa and Christmas playlists. It was busy, but seeing families light up when they got their photos made every late night worth it.
Family Time vs. Business Time
I’ll admit it—sometimes it was hard to switch off “work mode” and just be present for my own family. There were days when I was answering emails during dinner or sneaking in edits while everyone else watched a holiday movie. It wasn’t always perfect, but I tried to set boundaries (and remind myself that it’s okay to take a break).
Embracing the Messy Moments
Spoiler: not every holiday session was picture-perfect, and not every day ran on schedule. Kids got cranky, weather changed plans, and yes, I forgot my own holiday cards until the very last minute. I’ve learned to laugh it off, roll with the chaos, and capture the real moments—both in my work and at home.
Finding Joy in the Busy Season
Even when I was tired, I loved knowing that I got to help families make memories they’ll treasure. The chaos is part of the magic. I remind myself (and my clients) that it’s not about perfection—it’s about connection, laughter, and being together.
A Little Grace Goes a Long Way
If you’re reading this on Christmas Day and feeling a little overwhelmed by the holiday rush, know that you’re not alone. Today is about giving yourself permission to let go of the to-do list, soak in the little moments, and be present with the people you love. If the house is messy, the cookies are burnt, or you’re still in your pajamas at noon, that’s perfectly okay. This day is about joy, grace, and being together—no perfection required.
If you’re in the thick of holiday chaos today, I see you. We’re all just doing our best—and that’s more than enough. Merry Christmas from my busy, joy-filled corner of the world to yours!
