Winter photo sessions in Indiana are a whole different vibe—beautiful, unpredictable, and sometimes downright chilly! Over the years, I’ve learned a few tricks to make sure every client stays comfortable, happy, and looking their best, no matter what the weather throws our way.
Planning Ahead: Watching the Weather (and Having a Backup Plan)
I always keep a close eye on the forecast leading up to sessions. If it looks too cold, windy, or snowy, I’ll check in with clients and have Huddleston House on standby as our cozy indoor backup. Flexibility is key—sometimes the best photos come from rolling with whatever the day brings!
Packing the Essentials: My Winter Session Toolkit
I pack extra blankets, hand warmers, and thermoses of hot cocoa, and I always have a stash of tissues (for runny noses!) and snacks—because a happy client is a warm client.

Styling Tips: Dress for Warmth and Style
I encourage everyone to dress in layers—think cozy sweaters, boots, and cute winter accessories. I’ll send out a quick style guide before the shoot, with ideas for color palettes that pop against winter backgrounds. Don’t forget gloves and hats; they can be adorable in photos!
Keeping Sessions Short, Sweet, and Fun
Winter light is gorgeous but fades fast, so I plan sessions for the warmest part of the day and keep things moving. We take plenty of breaks to warm up, laugh, and sip cocoa. If kids need to run around to stay warm, I’m all for it—those candid moments make for some of the best shots.
Creating a Cozy Experience
Whether we’re inside or braving the cold outdoors, my goal is to make every client feel comfortable and cared for. I want you to remember the fun, not the chill! With a little planning and a lot of heart, winter sessions can be some of the most magical of the year.
